The workshopped staged reading of The Brothers Paranormal is directed by MediaRites board member and Reed College theater professor Kate Duffly. LA-based playwright Prince Gomolvilas will be attending the opening performance including an audience talkback session after the show. In addition, Gomolvilas will hold a Masterclass on playwriting on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 11am-1pm. Ticket holders will get free registration.
Synopsis: Two Thai-American brothers launch a ghost-hunting business in order to capitalize on the nationwide increase in sightings of Asian-looking ghosts. When the siblings end up investigating the home of an African American couple who claim to be haunted by one very terrifying spirit, everyone’s notions of reality, fantasy, and sanity clash against the shocking truth.  At its heart this play is an modern allegory about grief, loss and healing for communities of color. Prince Gomolvilas has written many plays, including The Theory of Everything, which won the PEN Center USA Literary Award for Drama and was published by Dramatic Publishing. ​His work has been produced around the United States, as well as in Canada, Singapore, Thailand, and the U.K. He is currently working on a new-play commission for Geva Theatre Center (Rochester, NY)
