Audition Notice: Refugee Dreams Revisited

The Story: MediaRites originally recorded oral history interviews more than 10 years ago with 15 former refugees from Cambodian, Vietnamese, Laotian, Mien and Hmong communities who arrived in Portland in the 80s and 90s, as part of celebration for the 10th anniversary of the “Crossing East, “a Peabody-Award-winning radio documentary series that ran on 230 NPR stations.

Why: MediaRites hopes to shed light on the positive contributions of refugees in America.

Who: We are seeking  Southeast Asian youth ages 16-24 to perform readings of these stories. Other AAPI ethnicities will be considered. This is a paid endeavor and we would love to give any young performers (or non-performers) a chance to be involved. Auditions will be held by appointment at a location near you.

Where: Performances will be paired panel discussion with the original refugee elders at Multnomah County Libraries, Central, Midland & North Portland.

When: FOUR performances total -Three performances will be scheduled May-June per actor availability. One final performance/discussion/celebration at IRCO (Immigrant and Refugee Community of Oregon on June. 24th.

All positions paid $400.
